Welcome to our American History Class!
There are lots of things you need to know about our class. The following is a copy of our classroom Disclosure.
First of all, our procedures/rules:
1. Bring Stuff Students should come to class prepared to work. This includes paper, pencils (sharpened before class), pens (blue or black only), folders and assignments if applicable. Preparation and participation points are awarded daily.
2. Be Polite Community of caring values will be stressed daily. Students will treat teachers, peers, and all who come into the classroom with dignity and respect. Students will NOT touch anyone else's property without permission, including teacher's property. The normal social courtesies will be expected and used. Students will refrain from displaying a negative attitude toward any student or teacher/adult in the classroom.
3. Raise Hand The learning environment will be enhanced if a student raises his or her hand before speaking so that everyone can hear instructions, comments, and questions. Good manners will be required.
4. Stay Put Students should be in their seats until the teacher gives permission to move around the classroom. The teacher will dismiss the students at the end of class, not the bell.
5. Self/peer Monitoring To help each other be positive and create an atmosphere where everyone has input and the ability to monitor behavior and be safe.

CLASS POLICIES
- Each student will be allowed two emergency hall passes each term. If, at the end of the term, a hall pass has not been used, it can be exchanged for extra credit points.
- Make up work is the responsibility of the student. Upon the return from any absence, he or she may check the log book at the front of the room, ask another student, or see the teacher before or after school for missing assignments. Any assignments due the day of the absence are due the next day the student returns. **For upcoming or known absences (such as family vacations) arrangements should be made to complete the work before the absences occur.
- Missed assignments from excused absences will be given full credit if completed in a timely manner. Missing assignments (or late work) from unexcused or unprepared work will result in partial credit. Due dates are always posted and announced weeks before a long term assignment is due, such as a term project or research activity.
- All student assignments are to be done by the student. Parents may assist students, but the final work turned in MUST be completed by the student. Students are sometimes given the opportunity to work as a team or a collaborative unit which allows students to share their ideas and final product. However, academic honesty will be enforced throughout the course of the year in this class. DO NOT ASSUME you can work together on an assignment unless the teacher explicitly allows group work.
- Back packs, including brief cases, cinch bags, band instruments, etc. are NOT allowed in this classroom. Students will have an in-class folder for all classroom materials. There is no need for a backpack or other such carrier. Binders or trapper keepers are allowed if they can fit under the desk when not in use. Toys and other distractive items should not be brought to class.
- Now and then, extra credit opportunities will be offered to students. Students should listen for these opportunities and utilize them as needed or wanted.
